How to set up your free business listing on Soho’s
Setting up a free business listing on Soho’s takes most people less than an hour, and you don’t need any technical knowledge. Here’s the whole process, start to finish.
Before you start, gather five things
The setup goes much faster if you have these ready:
- Your business name and ABN
- A short description of what you do (two or three sentences is plenty)
- Your logo, if you have one, and a handful of photos of your work
- Your service area: the suburbs or regions you cover
- Your contact details and opening hours
No logo? Don’t let that stop you. A clear photo of you or your work beats no listing at all, and you can add a logo later.
Step 1: create your account
Go to the add listing page. If you’re not signed in, you’ll be prompted to register first. It’s the usual email and password, nothing painful.
Step 2: choose the free package
Pick the Free plan. It’s free forever, not a trial. You can move to a paid plan later if you want more visibility, but there’s no pressure and no card required to start.
Step 3: fill in your listing
This is the part that matters. Work through the form:
- Title. Your business name, plus what you do if the name doesn’t say it. “Dave’s Plumbing” works. “DJM Services” needs help: “DJM Services, electrician” tells searchers and search engines what you are.
- Category and location. Pick the category that matches your trade and set your suburb. This is how local customers find you, so be accurate rather than broad.
- Description. Write like you’d talk to a customer at the door. What you do, who you do it for, what makes you the safe choice. Mention your suburbs naturally, because that’s what people search.
- Photos. Real photos of real work outperform stock images. Before-and-after shots are gold for trades.
- Hours and contact details. Double-check the phone number. You’d be surprised.
Step 4: set up bookings if you want them
If your work suits appointments, turn on booking and set your available times. Customers can then book you straight from the listing instead of ringing around. If you’d rather take enquiries only, that’s fine too, the enquiry form is on by default.
Step 5: publish and check it
Submit the listing, then open it the way a customer would, on your phone. Read it once out loud. Fix anything that sounds off or looks empty. A complete listing consistently attracts more enquiries than a bare one, so it’s worth the extra ten minutes.
What to do after it’s live
Two habits pay off. First, ask happy customers for a review while the job is still fresh, because reviews are what convince strangers. Second, keep your hours and photos current. A listing that looks maintained reads as a business that’s still trading.
Stuck on any step? Talk to a person and we’ll sort it out with you.
Ready when you are
The whole thing is free and most people finish inside an hour.
