The materials

Fixtures and fittings are 316 marine grade stainless steel, which is the grade that holds up in salt air without rusting. That matters on the Peninsula. Glass is 12mm toughened and complies with the Australian Building Code.

Keeping coastal glass clean

Glass near a pool or the sea picks up chlorine, salt and dirt, and over time that leaves a white film that gets harder to shift. Balustrade 1 can install glass treated with easy-clean nanotechnology so limescale does not take hold, and also offers CeramiClean, a one-off Nano4Life Diamond ceramic coating that repels water and dirt, resists scratches and chips, and cuts cleaning time by up to 90 per cent.

For anyone building their own, Balustrade 1 sells premium stainless steel wire balustrade fittings and hires out hydraulic swaging tools.
