Elite Gardenscapes is a garden care and lawn maintenance business based in Beacon Hill on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, run by Simon Teofilo. Garden and lawn maintenance

Most clients come to Elite Gardenscapes for regular maintenance rather than one-off jobs, on a fortnightly or monthly cycle that keeps a garden from ever getting away from them. A typical visit covers mowing, edging, hedging and a tidy-up, with seasonal work layered in as the year turns.

• Lawn mowing and edging. Cutting at the right height for the grass type matters more than cutting often. Buffalo and kikuyu, the two most common lawns on the Northern Beaches, are left longer than couch, which shades the soil, holds moisture through summer and crowds out weeds before they establish.
• Trimming and hedging. Shaped hedges, screening plants and shrubs cut back to keep light in the garden and paths clear. Timing is deliberate: most hedges are best trimmed after the spring flush and again in late summer, while frost-tender species are left until the cold has passed.
• Weeding and weed spraying. Hand weeding in beds and around plantings, and spot spraying for driveways, paths and larger infestations.
• Garden clean-ups and vegetation removal. The reset job: overgrown beds cleared, dead growth cut out, green waste taken away. Common before a property goes on the market, at the end of a tenancy, or when a garden has been left through a long absence.

A lawn that has thinned out, gone patchy or filled with weeds usually does not need replacing. Elite Gardenscapes offers both the repair route and the replacement route, and Simon will tell you which one a lawn actually needs before quoting.

• Lawn restoration and repair for bare patches, compacted ground and thinning coverage.
• Topdressing and fertilising to level an uneven surface and feed the lawn back into growth. Topdressing after a wet Sydney winter is what turns a tired lawn around before summer.
• Turfing and turf care where a lawn is past saving, including preparation of the ground beneath, which is the part that decides whether new turf takes.

Garden design and soft landscaping

Beyond maintenance, Elite Gardenscapes takes on garden design and soft landscaping: reworking beds, building up planting schemes, and the minor landscaping that ties a garden together. Quotes are free and provided in writing. Simon will visit the property, walk through what you want done, and set out the scope and cost so there are no surprises on the invoice. How often should a garden be maintained?

Most Sydney gardens sit on a fortnightly cycle through the growing season, from roughly September to March, and stretch to monthly over winter. Lawns are the driver: kikuyu and buffalo grow fast enough through summer that a month between cuts leaves you with a clean-up rather than a mow.

Do you do one-off jobs or only regular maintenance?

Both. One-off garden clean-ups, vegetation removal and pre-sale tidy-ups are a regular part of the work, and there is no obligation to sign up to a schedule.

Do you take the green waste away?

Yes. Clippings, prunings and cleared vegetation are removed as part of the job unless you would rather keep them.

Can you fix a lawn that has gone patchy rather than replacing it?

Usually. Most tired lawns respond to topdressing, fertilising and repair of the bare patches, which costs far less than returfing. Simon will tell you honestly which one your lawn needs when he quotes.

Do you look after gardens while owners are away?

Yes. Holiday watering and maintenance while you are away is available, and it is worth arranging before you leave rather than after a hot fortnight.
