Henry’s Honey Bee Rescue, part of the Sydney Bee Shop, is a Neutral Bay beekeeping business run by Henry. He removes and relocates honey bee colonies from homes year-round, collects swarms in spring and builds custom beehives in winter. Henry is contracted with NSW Local Land Services for feral bee management and has assisted with the NSW Department of Primary Industries response to Varroa mite. The business is licensed and insured.
Wherever practical, bees are relocated into hives rather than destroyed. Paper wasps and English wasps cannot be safely relocated, so those nests are removed quickly and humanely. For swarms, text your address and a photo of the swarm to 0423 298 841. Swarms very close to Neutral Bay are generally collected at no cost, with travel time charged further out.
The standard class runs for two hours: an hour on bees, hives and honey, then an hour of hands-on hive inspections covering management, pests and diseases, and honey harvesting in season. A shorter 1.5 hour general introduction includes a hive inspection and beeswax candle making, and can be run as a birthday party.
The site lists a typical cost of $160 for addresses within about 20 minutes of Neutral Bay. Call or text Henry for a quote.
Henry tries hard to relocate honey bees from difficult spots, including walls, ceilings and chimneys, and rehome them in hives.
