Tessuti Fabrics is a family run fabric shop on Commonwealth Street in Surry Hills, stocking dress fabrics, sewing patterns and haberdashery for dressmakers, home sewers and fashion students. The Surry Hills store opened in 2005 and the business has been trading since 1992.
Tessuti began in 1992 when founder Colette Guanta loaded her hatchback with rolls of quality fabric from her mother Silva’s fashion label and sold them from trestle tables in a vacant store. The first shop opened in Chatswood, stocking designer ends from Sydney fashion labels. As manufacturing moved offshore the range widened to European designer ends and a curated selection sourced from mills across Europe and Asia. Surry Hills followed in 2005 and the online store went live in 2008. There is also a Melbourne store.
